Two Truths One Lie

If you need a quick and simple icebreaker up your sleeve for any team event, then Two Truths One Lie is the one. If the group are new to each other, this is a fun way to get to know new faces. If the group have known each other for a while, it’s a great way to see who really knows their team.

In this icebreaker, the group takes it in turns to share 3 facts about themselves. Two of them must be true, one must be a lie. It’s up to you to figure out which one is fabricated...

Tools Required

  • Paper (optional)
  • Pens (optional)

Method

  1. Start out by having every team member write down two truths about themselves and one lie on a small piece of paper – put your name on your paper but ensure no-one reveals which are truths and which is the lie!
  2. Gather all the papers and read them out to the group one by one, allowing 10-15 minutes in total for open conversation.Let everyone quiz each other on their three facts - the idea is to convince others that your lie is actually a truth, while on the other hand, you try to guess other people’s truths/lies by asking them questions.
  3. Gather in a circle and take it in turns to repeat your 3 facts. Have everyone in the group vote on which fact they think is a lie.If you want to add a bit of a competition, award points for each lie you guess and/or claim points for stumping other players on your own lie.
  4. If you don’t have pens or paper to hand, you can do this icebreaker by simply taking it in turns to say your 3 facts to the group and allowing 60 seconds for the group to quiz you, then having the group vote on which one they suspect is the lie.
